Alpha Terms of Service
Draft: pending legal review
This is a draft for an early, invitation-only Alpha. It has not been approved by a lawyer and is not final. Anything in [square brackets] is still to be completed or decided. Version alpha-0.1-draft-1.
1. What this is
Evenstep is a private Alpha: an early test of a personal finance planning tool, offered by invitation to a small group of people. It is not a finished product, and it may be wrong, slow, or unavailable.
These terms apply to your use of the Alpha. By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not create an account.
Evenstep is operated by [OPERATOR NAME AND ADDRESS: to be completed by the owner and counsel once the business entity is formed] ("we", "us").
2. Who can use it
- You need an invitation sent to your email address. The invitation is for you only.
- [COUNSEL: minimum age and any parental-consent rule.]
- You can have one account. Please keep your password and two-step verification codes to yourself.
3. Synthetic data only: please do not enter real financial information
This Alpha is for testing with invented information. The bank connection uses a test service (Plaid Sandbox) that provides made-up banks, accounts and transactions. Manual accounts, manual transactions and CSV import are switched off.
Please do not type real account numbers, balances, passwords, tax or identity numbers, or other real financial details anywhere, including in plan, goal, bill and income names or notes. We cannot tell real values from invented ones, so please use invented ones.
4. Not financial advice
Evenstep shows estimates based on the information in it. It is not financial, tax, legal, investment or accounting advice, and it does not recommend any product. It is read-only: it cannot move money or make payments. Please do not make real financial decisions based on the Alpha.
[COUNSEL: confirm this wording is sufficient for the planning features, and whether any feature crosses into regulated advice.]
5. Your account and security
- Connecting a test bank requires two-step verification on your account, and a recent sign-in.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account if you share your credentials. Tell us promptly (through the Report a problem page) if you think someone else has accessed it.
- We use industry-standard protections, but no system is perfectly secure, and the Alpha has not yet had an independent security review.
6. Using it fairly
- Do not try to break, probe, overload or get around the protections of the service, or to access anyone else's information.
- Do not use it for anything unlawful, or to upload anything you do not have the right to use.
- We may suspend an account that puts the service or other people at risk.
7. Your feedback
You are welcome to tell us what works and what does not. We may use your feedback and reports to improve Evenstep without owing you anything for it. [COUNSEL: confirm the licence wording for feedback.]
8. Other services
The Alpha uses other providers: Plaid for the test bank connection, an email provider to send invitations and password-reset messages, and a hosting and database provider [to be named when chosen]. They have their own terms. How your information is handled is described in the privacy notice.
9. The Alpha will change
We may change, pause, reset or end the Alpha at any time. Data in the Alpha, including invented data, may be deleted when it ends or when we make changes. We do not promise any level of availability, accuracy or support.
10. Ending your use
You can download your data and delete your financial data or your whole account in Settings at any time. If you delete your account, we delete your information as described in the privacy notice.
11. Warranties and liability
The Alpha is provided "as is", without promises about its accuracy or fitness for any purpose. [COUNSEL: disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability and any consumer-law carve-outs; these are deliberately left blank in this draft.]
12. Governing law and disputes
[COUNSEL: governing law, venue and dispute resolution.]
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the product and ask you to accept the new version before you continue. [COUNSEL: confirm the mechanism for recording acceptance of a version.]
14. Contact
To report a problem or ask a question, use the Report a problem page in the product. [OWNER AND COUNSEL: a monitored contact address, once one exists.]
